To apply for VHA subsidized housing:

  1. Review the eligibility requirements and types of VHA subsidized housing.
  2. If a waiting list for which you qualify is open (see below), obtain an application by calling (360) 993-9580, by e-mail request, or in person at 2500 Main Street in Vancouver, WA
  3. Complete application and mail or bring it back to the VHA.
  4. Keep us informed with changes in your address. Returned mail will result in your being removed from the list.

The VHA's Waiting List for Subsidized Housing

There is a limited supply of VHA subsidized housing to fill a great need. All housing types have waiting lists that vary depending on housing type. Those waiting lists may be closed, especially if wait times are more than one year.

As of July 1, 2011 all Public Housing properties are smoke free.

NOTICE OF WAITING LIST OPENING FOR WALNUT GROVE SENIOR APARTMENTS (62+)

Notice is hereby given that the waiting list for Walnut Grove Senior Apartments (62 yrs. of age and over) of the Vancouver Housing Authority (VHA) is re-open effective immediately.   Applicants must be at least 62 years of age or over to be placed on the wait list. Income limit qualifications range from $25,200 for a family of one to $28,800 for a family of two. Walnut Grove Senior Apartments are 1 bedroom units, non-smoking, and are located at 7213 NE 58th St. Vancouver, WA 98661. Applications are available at the administrative office of the VHA located at 2500 Main Street, Vancouver, Washington 98660, on the VHA website at www.vhausa.com, or by calling (360) 993-9575.  Available units will be offered to qualified applicants based on the date and time of application. Average waiting times are:

Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher: 4- 5 years
VHA-owned housing: 3 - 5 years
Downtown high-rises: 6 months to 1 year

These wait times are not guaranteed and are provided so you know what to expect.

When the waiting lists for which you qualify are open, we encourage you to apply for subsidized housing if you need it. While you are on the waiting list, or if a category for which you qualify is closed, there are additional housing options that may be helpful for you.
