Step 1:
To qualify for VHA subsidized housing, you must meet income guidelines, and your household may not contain someone with a drug conviction or a criminal registration requirement (sex offender).
Disabled individuals qualify if they meet the above requirements and receive SSI/SSD or have a certification from their doctor.
Step 2:
Learn your subsidized housing options.
Low Rent Public Housing - duplexes, triplexes, apartments, and single-family homes owned by the VHA and located in Vancouver, Ridgefield, and Camas. Rent is based on household income, minus qualified expenses.
Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers - rent a home or apartment from a private landlord. Rent is based on household income. Residents must pass the landlord's own screening and the waiting list is typically longer than for public housing.
Downtown High-Rises - one-bedroom apartments in a convenient location. Rent is based on income.
Nonprofit-owned apartment buildings - one and two-bedroom apartments. These are site-based waiting lists with a contact for each property.
