    WILLING

Forget stereotypes about people who live in subsidized housing. We have people who are proactively preparing themselves to work. They are voluntarily growing their skills and finding experience through jobs and volunteer opportunities. Some have made a commitment to raise their income and be off of subsidized housing within five years.

These are people with energy, drive, experience in overcoming hardships and finding solutions. They are the kind of people you are looking for. They want to work.

“I was very impressed with the quality and level of
    interest from the participant.”

--Kathy Goldin Training and Development Specialist City of Vancouver

By the time our residents are ready for employment they already have job experience.

They have previous job experience. Some have experience through our Section 3 training program, or OJT. Many have high school diplomas, G.E.D.s, and/or office or medical certifications. Many have extensive volunteer experience.

To be listed in our employment database, residents have to be reliable and prepared to work. They have to be ready, willing, and able. And they are!

“I have to find jobs for these residents, they are impressive.”
Kimberly W Malen, BSN, RN Clinical Manager PeaceHealth Homecare Southwest

Hiring VHA residents may qualify you for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit. Earn between $2,400 and $9,600 in tax credits by hiring a veteran, public assistance recipient, or disabled person. Visit: www.esd.wa.gov/hireanemployee/ resources/taxcredits for more information.
